40th Anniversary Trip–Days 1&2

We waited 40 years for a honeymoon and I can say it was worth the wait.  We had a wonderful trip to Oahu and Maui.  Everything was beautiful, romantic and so fun!  Our first two days were spent in Honolulu where we stayed in the Waikiki area.

The first full day we were in Honolulu we took a tour of Pearl Harbor which included a visit to the Arizona Memorial and the battleship USS Missouri.  Very humbling to ponder the thousands of lives lost for our country at Pearl Harbor and the start of the war in the Pacific.

The building of the USS Missouri was completed at the end of WWII and on its deck was where the Japanese surrender took place.  The Missouri also was used as recently as Desert Storm.   The tour we were on also took us to historical sites around Honolulu including Punchbowl Cemetery.

The second day we hiked Diamond Head which is actually a volcano crater.  The view from Diamond Head was fantastic.
