We spent the past month in the mountains of Colorado as we have done for the past 7 years. It is a time to escape the Texas heat, refresh, exercise and enjoy God’s beauty in nature. This year we took some new hikes and visited some new places. We enjoyed the time with our friends and also a visit from Melissa and family. Following are some photos from the first couple of weeks.
We could not find the name for this hike but it was new to us and a great morning hike.
Rainbow Lake Trail had outstanding wildflowers the first week we were there.
The Mt. Royal Hike is one we like to tackle in the first days after we arrive, both to challenge ourselves and to hike it before we lose our nerve. It has a very steep elevation gain.
Sapphire Point is one of the places that we go to watch the sunset.
The other place for a good sunset is Black Lake.
We saw a double rainbow and the guys fished one evening as we watched the sunset at Black Lake.
We also went to the top of Boreas Pass to stargaze and went a little ways up the pass another evening to see the sunset and the lights of Breckenridge.
Bike rides are in order several times a week. This year Steve and I biked to Breckenridge twice, Dillon and to Copper Mountain as well as several rides from Vail Pass down into Frisco. We hop on our bikes often just to ride around Frisco for an hour or so.
The other two hikes we took the first part of the trip were Mayflower Gulch
and Tenderfoot Trail (below) which has great views of Lake Dillon.
We took a gondola ride at Keystone to the upper area of their ski runs.
Really pretty view from the top of Keystone ski area.
Wilder Gulch Hike was another “new to us” hike that we enjoyed. It ended up being nearly 8 miles round trip….and we had planned to ride our bikes after that. Our legs were tired that evening!
Beautiful views at the end of the hike.
